Outpatient Physical Therapy
Our hospital-based outpatient physical therapy provides comprehensive rehabilitation programs designed to maximize functional independence with an emphasis on helping individuals return to their prior level of function.
Physical therapy services can be coordinated with occupational and speech therapy services in the same department when appropriate.
Experienced physical therapists provide detailed evaluations, allowing for a continually evolving personalized plan of treatment. Physical therapy programs are available for various types of conditions including:
Neurological Disorders with diagnoses including but not limited to:
- Neuro re-education
- Gait training
- Functional skills
- Gait/balance training including the BIO DEX® balance system
- Fall recovery
The Lymphedema program of physical therapy includes those affected by melanoma, breast, prostate and cervical cancers, lymph node removal, and radiation therapy, and includes:
- Scar management
- Extremity and skin care
- Manual lymph drainage
- Compression bandaging
- Restoration of function
Wound Care Clinic
This program is overseen by a physical therapist who is a certified wound specialist.
Care is comprehensive and includes a wound evaluation, instrumental debridement, use of traditional and moisture retentive dressings, use of multi-layer compression bandages for those patients with venous ulcers, use of modalities such as hydrosound and VAC therapy, recommendations regarding pressure reduction (wheelchair cushions, therapeutic beds), fittings for compression stockings and instruction in application and use, on-going assessment and changes in treatment plan, frequent communication with physicians and other members of the health care team, and patient/family education and instruction.
Treatment at the Wound Care Clinic includes management of:
- Venous ulcers
- Arterial ulcers
- Diabetic/neuropathic ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Surgical wounds
- Traumatic wounds
