Innovative da Vinci Robotic System Transforms the Surgical Experience at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance

June 06, 2013

The rapid pace of robotic technology is transforming the experience of surgery – for patients and physicians. Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance is ushering in a new era in care with the da Vinci Surgical System’s Si HD newly-refined, robotic-assisted technology for minimally invasive surgery. The da Vinci SI Surgical System features a first in robotic-assisted surgery: a dual console used for both training and collaboration. This breakthrough enables each surgeon to sit at an individual console and see the same high definition images of the anatomy from the 3D endoscope (flexible tube with a camera and light at the tip).

The da Vinci system technology advances surgery by making it possible for surgeries to be performed with one small incision with the advantage of improved visualization and precision -- offering the potential for significantly less pain, a shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities – as well as better clinical outcomes.

The da Vinci System is an effective alternative to both traditional open and laparoscopic surgery, aligning with the objectives of Providence’s clinical transformation initiatives. Surgery with da Vinci combines superior 3D high definition vision, specially-developed instruments and computer-guided motion to provide surgical teams with increased precision, visualization, dexterity and control.
