Comprehensive Ostomy Services
The Providence Tarzana Ostomy Services program specializes in ostomy care and rehabilitation, and helps patients and their families in both the inpatient and outpatient setting adjust to a healthy, active lifestyle after ostomy surgery.
An ostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the wall of the patient's abdomen to discharge waste from the bowel or the bladder. Ostomies are necessary when part or all of the intestine or bladder are removed or when patients need time to recover and heal from an injury or surgery that affects that area of the body. Ostomies may be temporary or permanent.
Some conditions that may lead to ostomy surgery include: bowel or bladder cancer, diverticulitis, polyps, birth defects, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's Disease and trauma.
At Providence Tarzana Ostomy Services, our nurses are nationally certified Wound Ostomy Nurses and provide comprehensive teaching, counseling and care for their patients, including:
- Pre- and post-operative education
- Selection and skin marking of the stoma location

- Lifestyle support and counseling
