Providence Health Magazine Fall 2015

September 25, 2015

A few years ago Providence adopted a new core strategy: Creating Healthier Communities, Together. One way we are doing this is by partnering to enhance the care we provide.

Providence Tarzana Medical Center has one of the finest pediatric programs in our area, and now it’s even better thanks to an agreement with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. CHLA physicians now direct our pediatrics program as well as our pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, raising the level of care we offer in the Valley and surrounding communities.

We also have expanded our telemedicine program thanks to a new partnership with a team of psychiatrists. Utilizing robots, our psychiatrists are available 24/7 to provide a visual link to patients in our three Valley emergency departments and diagnose and treat mental illness.

Robots can be found at all six of our hospitals. Robotics are used to enhance a surgeon’s precision during procedures including prostate removal and certain gynecological surgeries. We also have germ-zapping robots at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, Providence Saint John’s Health Center and Providence Tarzana, which disinfect hard-to-reach places—adding a higher level of safety. This technology is being considered throughout the five-state Providence system.

It’s football season for all ages, and inside you’ll read important information about concussions. At Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, we offer a Concussion Management Clinic that provides expertise in evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of sports-related concussions.

When patients do suffer long-term injuries, the Sub Acute Care Center at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro offers inpatient rehabilitation that has produced remarkable results. We invite you to read about a patient who beat the odds, thanks to a dedicated staff of therapists.

Last but not least, summer is over, but here in Southern California we never should take down our guard against the harmful effects of fun in the sun. Please remember the sunscreen!
