Dr. Kayne is a Board Certified Internist, Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and Certified Diabetes Educator who has been practicing medicine for more than 26 years. In addition to Internal Medicine, Dr. Kayne has had a special interest into the treatment of people with Diabetes. His office offers cutting edge Diabetes treatment including use of the latest technological advances with insulin pumps and sensors as well as use of the most advanced medications including inhaled insulin (Afrezza), insulin analogues, oral agents and GLP-1 injectable medication. In addition, his practice setting at Medical Group of Encino also offers private counseling with a certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietician. He also works with five other board certified internists who have special interests in Infectious disease, Cardiology, HIV, and Geriatrics thus providing a comprehensive therapeutic setting for his patients.
Dr. Kayne has over 26 years experience as a principal investigator in more than 60 trials over his career. As a PI of many diabetic pharmacologic trials he has contributed to the approval of well-known medications such as Amaryl, Glumetza, Byetta, Bydureon, Farxiga, Jardiance, Humalog, Apidra, Lantus, Toujeo, Tresiba and Xultophy. He has completed studies combining GLP-1 inhibitors with SGLT2 inhibitors for Type 2 Diabetes and use of SGLT2 inhibitors in Type 1 Diabetes. He has also completed a trial with the latest cholesterol lowering medication PCSK9 in patients with diabetics who are not gotten to goal or who are intolerant to statin therapy. He recently finished enrolling patients using faster acting insulin Aspart in insulin pumps and also in combination with Tresiba for Type 1 Diabetics on multiple daily injections. He has also finished enrolling Type 2 Diabetic patients who are failing metformin therapy into a trial, which adds either oral GLP-1 or SGLT-2 to their therapeutic regimen.
At age 39 years old, Dr. Kayne served as the youngest Chief of Staff at Encino-Tarzana Medical Center from 2000-2002. For 2017 he has been appointed to the Ministry Board of Governors of Providence San Fernando Valley Hospitals (Tarzana, Holly Cross and Saint Josephs) He presently is the Chairman of the Diabetes Committee for Providence Tarzana Regional Medical Center. He was a founding member of San Fernando Valley branch of the ADA and presently serves on the community liaison board of the ADA in Los Angeles. He is a member of LACMA, CMA, ACP and ABIM. He supports the DRI (Diabetes Research Institute) and the JDRF in their cause to cure Diabetes.
Dr. Kayne has received numerous awards including Center of Excellence award from Medtronic for dedicated treatment of Diabetes with insulin pumps and sensors, 2012 Father of the Year award by the ADA, Patient Choice Award, 2011-2012, Compassionate Doctor Recognition 2012 & 2014, Healthgrade Honor Roll, and LA Magazine Super Doctors 2014, 2015 & 2016.
An LA native, Dr Kayne attended Fairfax High and then Occidental college where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1982. He went on to USC-Keck School of Medicine graduating in 1986. His post-graduate training in Internal Medicine took place at the UCLA Veterans Administration (VA) in West Los Angeles where he served an additional year as Chief Medicine Resident in 1989-90. He lives in the San Fernando Valley with his lovely wife Glenda and is the President of Medical Group of Encino since 2010.
