Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro has most recently received the CHART “Certificate of Excellence” for receiving Superior or Above Average results across the majority of outcomes and process measures publicly reported by CHART. This certificate is based on the July 2011, CalHospitalCompare.org update. Our medical center ranked in the top 21 among more than 240 hospitals throughout the state compared by California Healthcare Foundation.
Quality Achievement Award
Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the medical center’s commitment and success in implementing care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
Rehabcentre, accredited by CARF for Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs and for their Adult Stroke Specialty Program, was ranked by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR) as being in the top 5% of acute rehab centers in the nation for the quality and effectiveness of its program in 2009. This rating is based on a comprehensive scoring of multiple items, most of which pertain to the ability of acute rehab patients to perform daily living activities after their treatment. It shows once again that Rehabcentre is the treatment center of choice for patients recovering from a serious illness like stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury or other complex medical condition.
The Gold Standard for Stroke Care
Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro was the first location in the South Bay to carry the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. Earning this distinction demonstrates that we have the specialized knowledge, skills and technology in place to optimize outcomes for stroke patients and provide the best possible care - from the emergency department through treatment and recovery. As the Approved Stroke Center we are now a first-choice destination for ambulances able to transport, within 30 minutes or less, people with symptoms of acute stroke.
Performance Achievement Award

The award recognizes the medical center's commitment and success in implementing a high standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
Best Place to Practice
Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro is honored to be one of only six hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in Los Angeles and Orange Counties to receive the 2009 Press Ganey Best Place to Practice Award.
The Press Ganey Best Place to Practice Award is based on a survey of dedicated physicians who contribute passionately and enthusiastically to a hospital's success. The award illustrates our ratings to be within the 95th percentile on surveys over two consecutive reporting periods within two years. Additionally, survey responses ranked the hospital in the top 1% in the nation for the quality of patient care as well as for physicians who would recommend the hospital to their family and friends for care.
Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro earned a five-star Maternity Rating from HealthGrades in 2008 and 2009.
In ranking maternity services, HealthGrades analyzed records from more than 1,400 hospitals and found five-star hospitals reported almost 51 percent fewer complications among women who gave birth vaginally compared to patients in poor-performing hospitals. These top hospitals also had 76 percent fewer maternal complications among women who had Caesarean-sections.

Paul Pratt, RN, BSN, earned the ACNL (Association of California Nurse Leaders) Administration award in 2009. Paul has been a nurse leader at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro for four years and is an exemplary nursing director having responsibility for Medical Surgical, Telemetry and Critical Care. He was recognized for achievements in solving staffing challenges, advancing the integration of registry and traveling nurses and for ensuring that quality patient care remained consistently high. Paul demonstrates compassion, clinical knowledge, strong leadership qualities, sensitivity and openness to everyone he comes in contact with. He is known as a "can do" manager with a positive attitude and demonstrates passion for quality care.
