Nutritional Counseling

Inpatient Registered Dietitians (RDs) at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center play a vital role as part of the healthcare team by providing nutritional care to patients in various disease states and conditions.

As nutrition experts, clinical dietitians use critical thinking skills to monitor, assess, and diagnosis nutritional problems, and develop interventions to optimize a patient’s nutrition, status based on the patient's current medical condition and/or nutrition adequacy. The Registered Dietitian also collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs, and makes nutrition recommendations to optimize patient outcomes.

The clinical dietitian’s role at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center is to also teach patients how to make nutritionally-sound food choices to speed the recovery process, prevent disease and maintain a healthy lifestyle. If appropriate, the clinical dietitians will also work with outpatient services to refer patients for continual nutrition care once discharged from the hospital.
