Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) Nurses are committed to providing the best care for their patients and community. Through their continued commitment to excellence Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center remains a top hospital to receive care and a great place to practice nursing. Nurses represent a deep compassion to provide a healing environment that encompasses the body, mind and soul of the patients and families they serve. At Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center our nurses honor the sacred work of nursing and our mission to care for the poor and vulnerable. As we continue on, our focus remains on providing zero harm to our patients and ensuring that we partner with the multidisciplinary team to create a safe, reliable and healing environment. We will continue our work on empowering and educated patients and families on how to remain healthy, advocate for resources to help reduce their need for hospitalization and promote a healthier community.
We have continued to grow as a profession within our ministry and through the nurses commitment to advancement increased our BSN rate from 60% in 2016 to 65% in 2017. As a part of PSJMC commitment to patient centered care, the Nursing Department is actively involved in quality improvement initiatives focused on measuring and improving patient outcomes. Our Magnet Journey is in full motion with an expected site visit to occur in 2019. The focus on shared governance and decision making will continue to influence how we deliver care here as well as how we retain and attract top nurses to practice at our ministry.
Nursing Professional Practice Model, Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring inspires our care delivery system, patient and family centered care. The PPM empowers the nurses to deliver the Providence Promise, “Know me, Care for me, Ease my way”. At the core of the PPM is the patient and family. Patricia Benner’s Novice to Expert theory drives continual improvements in nursing practice. The PPM’s core is surrounded by overlapping pedals representing the five domains of professional nursing practice.
