Follow-Up Care

Regional Centers provide developmental assessment and diagnosis of developmental delays or special developmental needs. They help access, coordinate and monitor the early intervention services and supports needed by many NICU babies. There is no charge for the diagnosis and eligibility assessment. Many NICU babies qualify for Regional Center services because they are at "high risk" for experiencing a later developmental disability. If your baby qualifies for a Regional Center evaluation, the social worker will complete a referral on your behalf after baby is discharged from the NICU. You should be contacted by Regional Center representative in the next month after baby comes home to schedule the initial evaluation appointment.
