Our highly skilled phlebotomists and licensed clinical laboratory scientists provide prompt, friendly, comprehensive services for both adult and pediatric patients.

Providence Laboratory uses a system of administrative and analytical plans, policies and procedures that ensure the highest quality laboratory test results. Under a quality-assurance system, guidelines are in place for specimen collection, transportation, processing and analysis, and for reporting test results.
Facilities and Resources
Providence Laboratory has the facilities to provide quality services, including a new, well-designed and spacious laboratory work area. The state-of-the-art automated testing equipment is complemented with equipment that performs modern molecular diagnostic tests, such as in-situ hybridization, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.
As a hospital-based program, Providence Laboratory recruits only highly trained personnel to staff the laboratory. Our staff members continue enhancing their skills with frequent in-service training seminars and our expert pathologists, many of whom have sub-specialty training in a variety of areas, provide robust support to the personnel to ensure the highest quality of service.
Providence Laboratory maintains strict technical protocols to control the accuracy and precision of test results. These include pre-analytical and analytical variables as well as the monitoring of analytical quality of testing. In addition, Providence Laboratory participates in the College of American Pathologists Proficiency Testing program, which provides an independent assessment of test performance.
The laboratory provides expert consultation for a broad range of tissue biopsies and cytologic specimens. Our pathology group is comprised of only board-certified pathologists who have extensive academic backgrounds and are highly specialized.

In addition, our pathologists are active in national medical school and in-house teaching programs, and they are engaged in research and educational projects. Many of them also are extensively published in their areas of specialty.
Outside consultants are retained in transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, microbiology and molecular diagnostics from area universities and research medical centers. The laboratory maintains relationships with a variety of teaching institutions including Los Angeles County /University of Southern California Medical Center, Stanford University Medical Center and the University of Nebraska as well as with other experts throughout the country.
Pathologists are available for consultation seven days a week. When unusual, unexpected or malignant findings are encountered, a pathologist contacts the submitting physician to discuss the case. STAT results are provided by phone as soon as the results are available and critical values are provided 24 hours a day.
