Elekta Axesse (Stereotactic Radiosurgery)
The Elekta Axesse™ accommodates both image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for treating the brain, spine, lungs, liver and other organs. It has the ability to perform volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), which involves multiple revolutions of the machine around the patient, delivering the radiation in an arc-like fashion. This technology reduces treatment times for some patients from 20 minutes to as little as 2 minutes without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
The Disney Family Cancer Center has two Elekta Infinity™ linear accelerators. The Elekta Infinity™ provides 3D image guidance that enables imaging of the patient to be performed in the treatment position prior to starting treatment. This helps ensure that the patient position is optimized to treat the tumor more precisely. The Elekta Infinity™ also has tools that enable visualization of the tumor and normal tissues between and during treatment. The Elekta Infinity™ has volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) capability.
