jan_kellerungerProvidence Health & Services Southern California is an exciting organization in which to practice nursing! We currently have over 5000 nurses throughout our ambulatory clinics, hospitals, hospice, home care and other practice settings in Los Angeles County, and that number is growing daily. In all of these settings, Providence nurses are committed to advocating and leading toward healthier communities. We do this by delivering world class, compassionate care, working as a team with other healthcare professionals to meet the unique needs of individual, families and communities. Our Providence Health & Services Nursing Institute promotes on going optimization of evidence based practice standards, education and professional development of all nurses during throughout their career.

The Providence Health & Services Southern California Nursing Institute (NI) was established in January 2012 with the following Vision:

"To inspire excellence & empower innovation to transform professional practice through education, research, evidence based practice (EBP) & technology."

The framework for the NI is to establish EBP expert to expert teams to ensure highest standards in clinical practice, optimization & innovation in professional development through education, advance quality & safety through use of "Nurse Sensitive" outcomes data bases and to develop a Providence Health & Services Southern California nursing research agenda.

The Professional Practice Model for nursing illustration is noted below. Our work is grounded in the care delivery model of Patient and Family Centered care, professional development of nursing is based on Dr. Patricia Benner’s: Novice to Expert model, and our Nursing Theory is Dr. Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring
