February 18, 2014
Philanthropist Chris W. Caras was appointed Trustee Emeritus at Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation’s Celebration of Philanthropy Dinner at the Palos Verdes Golf Club. Chris served with distinction on the Foundation Board from 1988 through 2002. Married for 56 years, Chris and his wife Joan have shared their time, talent and treasure, creating a lasting impact at Providence Little Company of Mary.
They made their first gift to Little Company of Mary Hospital in 1987, benefiting the Chapel. Through the years, they pledged support for capital campaigns, made annual gifts and attended events, as well as making a special gift to create a children's playroom in the emergency department. Most significantly, in 2006, they established the Joan and Chris W. Caras Endowment with a $1 million gift benefiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance. The new NICU was the first in Los Angeles to offer single family rooms, emphasizing family-centered care.
