Providence Tarzana Earns Healthgrades’ Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence
TARZANA (Jan. 15, 2013) – Providence Tarzana Medical Center has earned Healthgrades’ 2013 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, awarded to the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
The award is for clinical performance measured by Healthgrades, a provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
Healthgrades tallied patient care data from 2009 through 2011 that included outcomes for Medicare patients treated for up to 27 of the most common conditions and procedures.
Providence Tarzana was among 262 hospitals across the United States that showed superior performance. In fact, similar performance at hospitals nationwide would have saved an estimated 164,414 lives over the two years, according to Healthgrades’ calculations.
“This is outstanding news. The credit goes to our great team of physicians, our nurses and to our entire staff for their focus on providing excellent and compassionate care for every patient,” said Jerry Clute, the hospital’s chief executive. “Providence Tarzana has a long tradition of providing the best care and continually looks for ways to be even better.”
Providence Health & Services acquired the former Tarzana Regional Medical Center in 2008, converting a top quality, corporate-owned hospital to faith-based and not-for-profit. Providence invested heavily in its new Tarzana campus, upgrading equipment and programs and encouraging experts to expert collaboration and sharing of best practices. The results are seen in the quality patient outcomes.
“Healthgrades helps consumers become more aware that hospital quality matters and differs significantly from one hospital to another, even in their own neighborhood,” said Evan Marks, executive vice president of Informatics and Strategy for Healthgrades. “Since selecting a physician and hospital strongly impacts patients’ odds of experiencing complications or emerging from their procedure alive and well, patients should familiarize themselves with the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence recipients since these hospitals stand out above the rest for their overall clinical performance across a broad spectrum of care.”
