Arrhythmia Services at Providence Saint Joseph, Providence Holy Cross and Providence Tarzana Medical Centers set the standard for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. The programs specialize in the treatment of arrhythmia, a heart condition that without medical therapy or intervention may diminish the quality-of-life or result in sudden cardiac death. The causes of arrhythmia, or cardiac rhythm disorder, are coronary artery disease (CAD), structural heart disease, and congenital cardiac abnormalities. Symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, fainting, heart failure or sudden cardiac death. An arrhythmia can be slow, rapid, or disorganized and can be diagnosed by an electrophysiological exam. This exam can include an invasive procedure such as arrhythmia mapping (via catheter) or arrhythmia induction or a noninvasive procedure such as a tilt table test or an electrocardiogram. Treatments can include catheter ablation, ICD or pacemaker placement, or minimally invasive surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation.
