Medical & Surgical Oncology
Medical Oncologists are internists who have received additional specialized training in the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. At Providence, our team of medical oncologists direct the overall care of each cancer patient, from determining the stage of cancer to developing the most appropriate treatment plan.
Treatment options recommended and directed by your medical oncologist may include chemotherapy, hormone-suppressing medications, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy and/or analgesics.
In medical oncology, patient care delivery and treatment planning involves using an interdisciplinary team of professionals. This group of medical experts includes specialty physicians in a weekly cancer conference to develop and evaluate each patient’s individual comprehensive care plan.
Medical oncology services are administered in an infusion center setting and include:
- Hormone therapy
Outpatient medical oncology provides services to adult oncology and hematology patients including:
- Infusion therapy
- Physician office visits
- Supportive services
Providence Holy Cross provides outpatient infusion treatments to cancer patients in Mission Hills, a few blocks away from the hospital main campus.
Providence Infusion Center
11333 N. Sepulveda Blvd. Suite 3300A
Mission Hills, CA 91345
The Infusion Center provides our patients with a place where they can receive intravenous infusions including chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, IV steroids, IV immunoglobulin as well as infusions for osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis (MS), in a safe, clean and professional space. Our medical staff of physicians and registered nurses administer the infusions, administer blood tests (CBC), monitor the patient's response to treatment and ensure the patients are following their treatment plans.
If surgery is the preferred cancer treatment method, our Medical Oncologists work closely with our Oncological Surgeons while continuing to direct the overall care of the patient before, during and after the operation.
