Dr. Faries came to JWCI for a surgical oncology fellowship in 2002. He remained on the institute’s faculty after graduation and led several therapeutic clinical trials during that time. He was then recruited to Yale University, where he was appointed associate professor of surgery.
In 2011, Dr. Donald Morton, JWCI's founder and leader of its melanoma program at the time, asked Dr. Faries to return to ensure completion of important research projects and take over leadership of the fellowship program.
Dr. Faries oversees clinical trials that include over 6,000 patients around the world and has been awarded substantial research funding by the National Cancer Institute. He was the first surgeon in California to perform minimally invasive inguinal lymph node dissections.He established a Food and Drug Administration- certified cellular immunotherapy lab, and has published over 150 manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters. He has given invited lectures in nine countries on three continents.
