A native to the South Bay, Dr. Reza Askari went to the University of California Santa Barbara, and studied medicine at the Saba University before completing his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, a subway stop away from the old Yankees Stadium. During his four years in residency he developed a solid interest in minimally invasive surgery and spent his fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at the University of Buffalo, State University of New York. He received his board certification in 2013.
Dr Askari has always had a long standing interest in urological issues and pelvic floor disorders because his own father is a long time South Bay Urologist and he further developed in the field of pelvic floor disorders during his time in fellowship. He specializes in Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Following his fellowship he practiced in Seattle is proud for developing and implementing the Robotic Surgical Program for Pacific Medical Centers, before returning to academic medicine and training Fellows in the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopist Fellowship located in Las Vegas, Nevada. He came to join Providence Health System in 2016.
He is trained in Robotic, laparoscopic, and vaginal surgery, in the areas of pelvic organ prolapse, urination and fecal incontinence, and pelvic pain. He also treats patients with mesh complications, fistula repair and other pelvic floor disorders. Each person gets treated for their specific issue and a plan is optimized for their specific problem with conservative therapy being a first option for many individuals. Surgically, most if not all procedures are performed in a minimally invasive manner with Robotic surgery available to all surgical candidates.
Dr Askari is devoted to providing the full range of advanced minimally invasive and Robotic and Urogynecologic surgical services.
Lastly, besides being active in the medical community he is married and a devoted husband, is an avid dog lover and a proud owner of his Dachshund Oskar. He also loves to play tennis, and just being an average Southern Californian enjoying his time back home.
