Women's Center

The Providence Tarzana Women's Center provides diagnostic and screening digital mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast biopsies and bone density screenings to assist women in maintaining their health at all stages in their lives, and detecting in cancer or other health problems as early as possible.

Digital mammograms are used to screen for breast cancer, leading to early detection, when tumors are small and the survival rates are highest. Early detection also means that more treatment options may be available, including breast conservation treatments.

Breast ultrasounds are frequently prescribed as a supplemental test to help diagnose any breast abnormalities that present themselves in a mammogram. A breast ultrasound can help provide more details about an abnormality, and can help determine if a lump is a solid tumor or a fluid-filled cyst.

Breast biopsies are used to determine if a lump is benign, or cancerous. There are several different kinds of breast biopsies, including fine needle aspiration biopsy, core needle biopsy, and vacuum-assisted breast biopsy. Your doctor will decide which biopsy will be best, depending on the type, size and location of the lump to be biopsied.

A bone density test measures the amount of calcium and other minerals in your bones to determine if you are at risk or have osteoporosis. Osteoporosis causes bones to become brittle, and greatly increases the chances of breaking bones or developing fractures.

The Providence Tarzana Women's Center provides screening and diagnostic imaging services in a safe, comfortable setting for women of all ages, encouraging and educating each woman to care for her health. Our expert radiologists communicate test results to each patient's physician quickly, and each patient is supported emotionally and spiritually, with the compassionate care that is part of the mission of Providence Health & Services.
