At Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro, we offer eight specially designed labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms, where patients may have a private experience giving birth.

Each suite, with beautiful harbor and hillside views, is equipped with private bathrooms with showers and a birthing bed that is comfortable for the mother during labor and can be quickly converted for delivery. There is a place in the suites for the father or significant other to stay, as well as room for other family members who wish to participate in the birthing experience. To facilitate mother/baby bonding, each birthing suite has room for a bassinet, so babies can remain with their mothers throughout their stay at the hospital. To celebrate the birth of your new baby, we have arranged a special dinner for you and your significant other, including a special menu.

Support After Delivery

After delivery, one of our nurses will assist you with any of your needs: fostering mother/baby bonding with "skin to skin" contact, assisting with breastfeeding or facilitating bottle feeding, whichever you choose.

If you aren't able to get all the rest you need, your nurse will care for your baby, until you feel rested enough to care for your baby. If your delivery is cesarean, we have a transitional/observational newborn nursery available to care for your baby during your immediate post surgical recovery.

Before you go home, your nurse reviews care for yourself and your baby with you. Topics include: when to call the doctor/clinic; how to care for yourself; how to care for your new baby; when to call your baby's doctor; and when to call your doctor. This is a great time to ask questions so please ask about anything that is not clear.

For more information and to arrange a complimentary tour of our maternity unit and/or to enroll in our childbirth classes, please call our Health Resource Center at 888-HEALING (432-5464).
