Here for You After Breast Surgery
January 01, 2013
Women living with lymphedema or other breast-related pain or complications have a tremendous resource in Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro.
Following breast surgery or cancer treatment, our lymphedema-certified and cancer care-trained physical and occupational therapists can help with pain management, mobility and range-of-motion exercises, energy conservation strategies during chemotherapy and post-radiation skin care.
For those with lymphedema, our experts offer management techniques, including manual lymphatic drainage and compression.
Certified lymphedema therapist Cynthia Stibbie, OT/L, CLT, says the benefits of receiving therapy in a hospital setting are numerous. “There is a lot of extra support here, especially for women who are going through so much,” she says. “If you’re on radiation therapy, you’re tired. It’s easier to come downstairs and do your physical and occupational therapy in the same facility.”
