Sports Medicine

At Providence Medical Institute our sports medicine physicians are prepared to help you stay active and engaged in the activities you love to pursue. Our care encompasses every age and ability level. We want to help you prepare for your sport, avoid injuries and improve your performance. For the mature athlete we want to help you stay active and balance your goals with overall wellness.

Services often begin with an injury assessment including overuse injuries in adults and children. Injuries are typically related to soft-tissues such as ligaments and tendons; sprains, muscle pulls and fractures. Our physicians also use musculoskeletal ultrasound, and if indicated, perform ultrasound guided arthritis (hyaluronic acid) or cortisone injections.

Assessment and treatment for musculoskeletal areas include:

  • Concussion management - ImPACT®
  • Knee
  • Elbow
  • Shoulder
  • Hamstring
  • Hip
  • Ankle
  • Foot
  • Wrist

The physicians at Providence Medical Institute work closely with their patients to listen and understand their needs and concerns. We keep abreast of current medical advances and take a personal active interest in sports, fitness and nutritional health. Drs. Georgio and Salahuddin have completed extensive training and participate in research related to concussion management. Each physician has been trained using ImPACT®, a concussion management model, used to assess concussions. In addition to completing a three-year family medicine residency, our physicians complete an additional year of education in a sports medicine fellowship program. Sports medicine at Providence Medical Institute involves non-operative orthopedic care for patients who experience sports and exercise-related injuries. We work in partnership with local orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, radiologists and athletic trainers.
