Providence Blood Donation

Providence is proud to work with the American Red Cross in meeting the needs of our patients who require blood. One of every 10 hospitalized patients needs blood. A single patient can need several units of blood and accidents or disasters involving numerous patients can deplete supplies. The American Red Cross is a reliable, quality and trusted source for blood locally and across the nation.

Donating blood benefits local patients and helps ensure that the American Red Cross can meet local needs as well as the needs of communities in other parts of the country when a disaster occurs. Blood donation is easy, safe and takes little time. Donors must be in good health, a minimum of 110 pounds and at least 17 years old.

Save A Life

Did you know that one blood donation can help save the lives of up to three people? You could be that donor today.

Consider scheduling an appointment with the Red Cross, especially with the holidays just around the corner. Traumas tend to increase during a holiday or over a  holiday weekend, which means a critical need for blood immediately. In addition, donations dip during the summer months, when high school students—the single largest donor group—are out of school.

All blood types are needed, with particular emphasis on O-positive and O-negative blood. The latter can be universally transfused of patients of all blood types. O-negative is always in great demand and short supply. Only 7 percent of the population has it.
