Genevieve Tanner kept in shape with regular walks and water aerobics

March 31, 2014
At 74, Genevieve Tanner kept in shape with regular walks and water aerobics. She thought perhaps her age was catching up to her when it took more effort to walk uphill, but a check-up revealed something much more serious. Genevieve was diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis, an obstruction of the heart's aortic valve, and atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm disorder. Her cardiothoracic surgeon repaired the valve and the left atrium, and it wasn’t long before Genevieve was not only walking uphill, but back to a full life. Genevieve, a mother of four and grandmother of nine, continues teaching pre-school and pursuing her hobbies, including crafting home-style quilts.
