When to use emergency care

It is important for patients to understand that Emergency Departments are for true emergencies. If you don’t know whether your emergency is life-threatening or not, take the safe approach and come in. However, if you don’t need this high level of care, consider options such as more affordable urgent care or a visit to your general practice physician.

About our physicians

The hospital has contracted with Vituity Medical Group to provide physician services in the Emergency Department. These physicians are independent contractors, not employees of the hospital, who contract separately with healthcare insurers and healthcare plans. As a result, they may not be in the same networks as the hospital. If you have any questions regarding whether these physicians are covered by your insurance, you should contact your insurance provider directly. To contact the ER group contracted to our hospital, please call 800-498-7157

Hands-Only CPR

We're honored to partner with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the County’s Emergency Medical Services Agency, as well as the Department of Public Health, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the American Heart Association, to encourage residents to be trained in Hands-Only CPR.

The State Department of Health Services and Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency have designated our emergency department as a STEMI Receiving Center (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction), or heart attack treatment center.

Our Emergency Department has met the rigorous guidelines to receive this designation, including meeting the "90-minute" goal of restoring blood flow to patients who show symptoms of an acute heart attack. The STEMI Receiving Team in the Emergency Department coordinates closely with local paramedics, rapidly mobilizing our Providence Coronary Catheterization Team, interventional cardiologists, and cardiothoracic surgeons to ensure the best possible outcomes.
